A Thousand Roses

Barcelona,

23 April 2015

The legend says that there was this terrifying dragon that devoured the animals and frightened the population of a little town called Montblanc.

To calm his anger, the inhabitants of Montblanc, decided to sacrifice a random person who turned out to be the princess.

When she was about to be swallowed up by the dragon, a courageous knight called Saint George, appeared and thrust his lance into the dragon’s chest.

The dragon died and from his blood itย bloomed a red rose that George gave to the princess.

Since then it’s a custom in Catalonia that, on Saint George’s day, guys give a red rose to his loved one.

It also happens to be the world’s book day, so it’s also become a tradition that women give a book to men.

I don’t know if you knew about this tradition. But as it’s one of my favorite days of the year, I wanted to share it with you.

St George is such a magical/beautiful/romantic day. Today the streets of Barcelonaย got busy. There were book and roses stalls all over the city. People walking, smiling, having fun and just enjoying love and spring and lecture and life.

Hope this pictures can transport you here somehow ๐Ÿ™‚

Spread the love, give roses and read books!!
